'Senes Futura Sunt'
Old People are our Future

Last of the Summer Wind
.... was started in the late 1980s as an initiative by Bolton Adult Education Dept. and evolved into today's ensemble. We are a group of amateur musicians who enjoy playing authentic vintage music of the great dance band era.
We meet each Tuesday from 1.00 pm until around 2.15 pm at
our new "home", St. Bede's Church, Normamby Street, in the Morris Green area of Bolton (postcode BL3 3QR)
More players are needed to keep this fantastic live music alive. See CONTACT page.

Pictured below July 2017 at St Bede's, Morris Green, Bolton "Srawberry Fayre" and other band members at rehearsals pictured since Christmas 2016.
On Saturday evening, 13th July 2019, surprise party was held by the parishioners of St. Bede’s Church, Morris Green at the hall of St. Thomas and St. John, Lostock.
It was in honour of the minister, Rev. Malcolm Bristow, who retired on 17th July.
The hall was in hushed darkness until Rev. Bristow and wife Patricia stepped inside and were greeted by “For he’s a jolly good fellow!” sung lustily by all and led by our trumpeter Stuart Speakman.
Stuart is lead trumpeter with “Last of the Summer Wind”, a dance orchestra that featured in an article by Lucy Ewing in the Bolton News around 2005. The headline was “They’re the oldest swingers in town!” Ken Kelley, then 68 and now in his 80’s is still Band Leader and we still have some of the other musicians mentioned in that article. New recruits are always still welcome. In mid 2025 we are still in particular need of a pianist / keyboard player.

Our latest "public performance" was at St. Bede's Christmas Fair 2024.
